Disease Surveillance Application (DSA)

Strategic Health Systems (SHS) has developed a truly unique web browser-based Disease Surveillance Application (DSA). DSA integrates notification, guided surveillance (case work up), and NEDSS compliant reporting by Local Health Departments (LHD) to the State and National Authorities (CDC).

Notifications may be entered into the system directly through the web interface or be captured from laboratories and hospitals directly in electronic form.

Surveillance, or case work ups, are guided by the standard reportable disease forms and the tests required by disease type. DSA allows for data export for visualization and statistical analysis.

Reporting of confirmed cases is consistent with NEDSS data standards.

DSA provides the above through an easy to use and understandable web browser-based architecture that is built on Oracle software. This architecture provides scalability of the system for use by small to very large sites without significant software modification.

DSA addresses the public health initiative because it was developed in close collaboration with key medical care providers, epidemiologists, informaticists, and technologists in the field of public health from the University of Louisville School of Public Health/Health Information Sciences, Jefferson County Health Department, the Kentucky Department of Public Health, and the CDC.
